questions
from readers
- #1
of our "Questions from Readers": JP of Cambridge,
England asks - In your press release for Professional Beauty
Products (See
Press release of 23 May 2004) you claim to only supply products
that are "free from animal experiments". Is your company
a member of the "Beauty Without Cruelty Foundation"?
- Answer
from our Editor: The Beauty Without Cruelty Foundation
was established by Lady Muriel Dowding (1908 -1993) in 1959 and
is known as the BWC Charitable Trust, an animal welfare organization
with a philosophy that is 100% vegetarian and 100% natural.
Lady Muriel was a famous UK animal rights campaigner in her day
and was instrumental in the start of Beauty Without Cruelty.
She also received prestigious awards and recognition from the
RSPCA (UK)
for her outstanding and tireless efforts for animals. Both she
and her husband were well-known in the British animal welfare
movement, and in fact there is a pro-animal charity named after
him. Lord Dowding's full name was: Air Chief Marshal Hugh Caswell
Tremenheere Dowding, 1st Baron Dowding GCB GCVO CMG, and the charity
named in his honour is the Lord
Dowding Fund for Humane Research. It is part of the National
Anti-Vivisection Society (U.K.) of which our firm "Professional
Beauty Products" company is an avid supporter.
The
BWC Charitable Trust was founded in response to the atrocities
perpetrated on animals for the fur trade. The founder, with a
few supporters, set out to create awareness about the cruelty
behind the fashionable fur industry, but later developed to cover
experiments on animals being carried out by major health, medical
and cosmetics companies. In our experience many suppliers of make-up
and cosmetics have "jumped on the band wagon" and claim
to have products that are developed without experiments being
performed on animals to test these products and thus making sure
they are fit for human use.
Today
the major thrust of any group or company that still uses the label
of the "Beauty Without Cruelty Cosmetics" philosophy
are not really connected to the original BWC Charitable Trust,
but are private companies that simply promote their campaigns
primarily to protect animals and the abuse of animals in the vivisection/cosmetic
industry, the fur and ivory trade, seal culling and factory farming.
One of the main sources of small animals popularly used in animal
experiments, is the Guinea Pig, because of its ability for prolific
breeding, thus the modern term for when a person is used to test
an idea or response, "he/she is a human guinea pig".
Read the notes on why medical research tries to justify the use
of guinea pigs in medical research, and judge for yourself click
here
The
answer to the question above is that our company is currently
not a member of any organization or company that claims to be
the original "Beauty Without Cruelty", or any
other public or private organization related to prevention of
cruelty to animals, but never-the-less we aggressively support
the philosophy of not using animals for experiments in the manufacturing
of cosmetics, and our firm maintains a policy of only using; promoting
and marketing products that are guaranteed to be free from animal
experiments.
Editor's
Note: The Delamere
Group are currently launching a new website www.BeautyWithoutCruelty.org
which will be a world wide NGO specially targeted to protect animals
and the abuse of animals in the vivisection/cosmetic industry,
the fur and ivory trade, seal culling and factory farming. A substantial
donation is being made by the MTC
International Foundation, which will help defray the initial
costs of the website development by Virtuosity
Design, and the hosting services offered by the Delamere
Group. If you would like to assist in this campaign of
"Beauty Without Cruelty" and you have any suggestions
or ideas to promote the cause, please

of the NGO, Resources

#2
of our Questions from Readers: KP of Cape Town, South
Africa asks: "I have been offered a training course in
massage therapy, with a guaranteed high salary upon completion
of the course. I wish to ask your editor, "Is this treatment
a genuine therapy or is it just a front for sexual deviants, with
the notorious "massage parlour" connotation?"
- Answer
from our Editor: The reply from our editor is based on
first hand experience from when the Delamere
Group operated the internationally accredited Cape Town
International Academy for Health and Beauty Therapy in Southern
Africa.
During
the annual registration of new students many of the parents
and students asked the very same question regarding the ethical
situation of massage therapy training, and the job offers at
the end of the course, the reason being that many graduating
students were often approached by salon owners who offered very
lucrative jobs as "massage therapists" especially
in the down-town business area, CBD (Central Business District
of Cape Town) and Waterfront areas of the City of Cape Town.
To
establish the genuineness of these job offers, a senior member
of the staff of our Cape
Town International Academy undertook an "undercover"
survey of many of these massage therapy salons, and most appeared
to be up-market "bona fida" salons, with shower cubicles
and private changing rooms. During the process when certain
bookings being made, offers for "extras" were made
by the salon manager, and when enquiries were made as to what
these "extras" included, there was no doubt in the
mind of the salon owner or manager, and in the mind of our "undercover"
agent, that this 'menu' included various inappropriate activities.
Of course this causes concern to the genuine therapists who
have spent good money on training in this most reputable and
therapeutic complimentary health therapy.
If
you require more information on education, training and courses
available in the health and beauty therapy field, please contact
us or visit our Delamere
Education page related to this subject.

of our Questions from Readers: KB of London UK, asks:
"Which products currently available for skin whitening do
you recommended as being safe for normal use?"
- Answer
from our Editor: Dear KB of London, this question
is currently being extensively researched by our staff and the
findings will appear on this page in due course. Many of our readers
are aware that most skin whiteners currently on the market contain
ingredients such as hydroquinone, ascorbic acid, kojic acid, arbutin,
azealic acid, glycyrrhetinic acid (licorice extract)) that act
as direct inhibitors of tyrosinase, the enzyme in the skin pigment
cells (melanocytes) that make melanin. Our update on this research
will appear soon. Meantime you might like to visit this site which
has been sent to us by one of our readers, click

of our Questions from Readers: GSM of Long Beach asks:
"I recently was recommended by my doctor that I should try
taking a colon cleanser program. This sounds an extreme treatment,
what does this colon treatment involve? and is it painful or uncomfortable?"
- Answer
from our Editor: Dear GSM of Long Beach, This health
therapy program is a powerful solution to many common ailments
which have been linked to autointoxication - a potentially deadly
condition that occurs when colon health is ignored. We are all
exposed to thousands of toxins and unhealthy chemicals on a daily
basis. We take them in from the food we eat, the water we drink,
the air we breathe, and the prescription medications we take.
These toxins and dangerous chemicals, along with the "typical"
American diet lead to poor digestion, constipation, weight gain,
low energy, headaches, and many other horrible human maladies.
Believe it or not, autopsies reveal the colons of 80% of people
who have passed away, are clogged up with waste material. We are
currently recommending an excellent program being offered by a
reputable medical company. Click

has some additional useful information.

of our Questions from Readers: TT from New York asks:
"I have a friend who recently undertook a treatment of Kinesiology,
as I have no idea what this treatment is about, and I was too
embarrassed to ask her, perhaps you could explain and clarify
what this treatment actually does for ones health and well-being?
-
Answer
from our Editor: Dear TT from New York, We would
like to quote from the online source Wikipedia, "Kinesiology,
also known as Human Kinetics, is the science of human movement.
It focuses on how the body functions and moves. A kinesiological
approach applies scientific and evidence based medical principles
towards the analysis, preservation and enhancement of human
movement in all settings and populations. Kinesiologists work
in research, the fitness industry, and clinical environments.
The practice of Kinesiology is the assessment of movement, performance,
and function; and the rehabilitation, prevention, and management
of disorders to maintain, rehabilitate, and enhance movement,
performance, and function in the areas of sport, recreation,
work, exercise, and activities of daily living. Kinesiologists
can be found working in fitness facilities, personal training/corporate
wellness facilities."
