| Why French Women Don't Get Fat |
Author
Mireille Guiliano of the now popular book "Why French Woman Don't Get Fat"
offers the following tips on how to manage your weight:
- Keep a food journal
- Document what you eat, how
you eat, quantities of what you eat, whether or not you always clear your plate
etc. Once you realize your habits, you will be able to change them if necessary.
- Savor what you eat
- Really enjoy what
you eat, and don't eat until you are full. Eat with all of your senses, which
will help you eat less because you're actually paying attention to your meal.
And, don't let your food become a burden to you - don't feel guilty, but rather
find balance. For example, if you indulge slightly the night before, balance your
diet to be less indulgent the following day.
- Slow and
steady
- Losing weight the correct way is a lifestyle change
-- there is no quick fix. Your body needs to get used to change and this takes
times.
- Variety
- Choose quality over
quantity and shop what is in season. By enjoying a variety of foods in your diet,
you will find that this compensates for those items that you really miss.
- Drink
water
- Drinking water helps control your appetite. It also helps
flush out toxins and keep your body hydrated.
- Ritual
eating
- Focus your attention on what you are eating. This means
turning off the television, eating at the table, and eating slowly. Try and make
special times during the day for eating.
- Portion control
- Use a scale and weigh your portions. Your body doesn't need
massive portions to satisfy cravings. If you crave something sweet, have one bite
-- you will be amazed at how quickly your cravy can be satisfied.
- Walk
- Walk instead of getting in the car. Why pay for that gym membership,
when you can walk where you need to go? Walking a few blocks will help with circulation
and reenergize you.
- Ritual preparations
- Enjoy making your own meals! Try shopping more regularly such as every other
day, instead of once a week or monthly. You'll find yourself eating more fresh
foods, and thoroughly enjoying the cooking experience.
